Jenson Button says they were not quick enough in 2012 Spanish Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
McLaren driver Jenson Button has said that they were not quick enough in 2012 Spanish Grand Prix held at Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona while he said that he himself needs to solve the issues which were faced in the race.
Button said that it is hard to make any kind of predictions in this season as there have been five different winners in the first five Grands Prix who ran on entirely different cars’ setups.
“The Formula One form-book is very mixed-up at the moment, which is unusual, but that's the way it appears to be going this season,” Button said.
It will be important to note that after the qualifying on Saturday, the Briton expressed that he struggled during the evening due to the issues of understeer and lack of grip. He added that he faced the same problems on the race day as he could only secure
ninth place finish after setting off from 10th grid position.
“As for us, well, a lot of my afternoon was spent stuck in traffic, and I had a Sauber breathing down my neck for most of the race. All in all, we weren't quite quick enough today - but that's something I need to solve myself. I need to find a set-up that
suits me better as I feel like I have pretty poor grip at the moment,” he said.
On the other hand, his teammate, Lewis Hamilton delivered an impressive performance in the qualifying and topped the timesheets. However, he was disqualified from the pole as he failed to meet the requirements of minimum fuel. Nonetheless, he said that he
is proud of his performance in Spanish GP as he came 8th even after starting the race from the last grid position.
Furthermore, Button is presently at 6th place in the drivers’ championship with 45 points. Moreover, he is 3 points behind Mark Webber of Red Bull Racing and 4 points ahead of Nico Rosberg of Mercedes.
Nevertheless, the 2009 world champion said that he is looking forward to perform well in the race ahead to be held at Circuit de Monaco which is one of his favourite tracks.
