Jenson Button seems happy with the first half of the season
McLaren driver Jenson Button seems to be happy with the way the first half of the season has gone for him as well as for McLaren. The British driver, after returning from his home race, believes that though the event had not unveiled as he had anticipated but still he was able to grab some points. Along with that, he successfully secured his second place at the Drivers’ Championship which is a healthy sign for him. Button explained that he expected to gain better results but after the bad qualifying session, he was a little disappointed and concerned for the race. However, the British driver had been able to grab a decent position as well as some good points for which he seemed real happy.
Last week at the Silverstone Circuit, Jenson Button started the race from the fourteenth place on the grid and ended at the fourth place. It was nothing less than magic on the track as he was able to leap forward a good ten places with so many other competitive cars in his way. Previously, the driver was able to achieve the same performance at the Malaysian Grand Prix where he started the race from the seventeenth place and was able to jump eighth positions.
At present, Jenson Button stands at the second place in the Drivers’ Championship holding the tail of his teammate Lewis Hamilton who stands at the top of the charts since the last two months. Button was able to grab a total of one hundred and thirty three points in total while his teammate secured one hundred and forty five points. Red Bull driver Mark Webber is following Button who is shy of only five points.
The 2010 season had been good for him right from the start as he was able to bag his first victory of the season from the second race in Australia, where he started from forth place on the grid. Later, the Brit was able to lay his hands on another race win at the Chinese Grand Prix as he ended at the first podium position after beginning the race from the fifth spot on the podium. At Monaco, Button was short of luck and ended with retiring from the race.
At the Turkish, Canadian and European Grand Prix’s, he always ended one place behind his teammate, securing the second place twice and ending once at the third place. However, at Silverstone last week, Button was short of two positions from his teammate as well as fellow citizen Lewis Hamilton.
The two bad races of the title defender this year came about in the season opener at Bahrain where he began from the eighth place and ended at the seventh spot. Likewise, he ended at the eighth place in Malaysia this year.
At the start of 2010, many experts were of the view that he made a wrong decision for jumping out of Mercedes Brawn team to land a job at McLaren which was popularly called as Hamilton’s team. However, Button had proved all these speculations wrong as he had been able to establish some parity with Hamilton in the team.
So far, the team as well as his fellow driver seem very happy with him and also with the way things have unfolded for them. After their first and fourth place finishes on last Sunday, Hamilton commented that their unity and friendly atmosphere in the team is one of the reasons why they had been able to do so good all through the season.
With the two best drivers of the season, McLaren is hopeful to grab both the titles in this season.
