The McLaren driver Jenson Button is looking forward to a faster and better paced 2011 season. He is convinced that the KERS will give an advantage to the British team over Red Bull and Ferrari next year.
This season has seen the team left behind in speed as compared to their other top competitors. All through the season the other McLaren driver, Lewis Hamilton had expressed several times that the team was only the third fastest
on the track, behind Red Bull and Ferrari.
Now, as the FIA ban the F-duct and has allows KERS for the upcoming season, McLaren is looking forward to a better season in terms of speed. The team has already used the system in 2009 and is very confident that it will improve
their package immensely.
KERS, the Kinetic Energy Recovery System, hit the Formula One tracks in 2009 for the first time and gave a lot of advantage to the drivers in overtaking. Since it was not compulsory back then, therefore only a small number of teams
were able to use it. Keeping this in account, the FIA banned its use for the 2010 season, only to let it come back now for 2011.
Button, who drove for Brawn GP when the system came in the sport earlier, managed to win the championship without KERS. However, he is now looking forward to have it installed in his car for the upcoming season. The driver lost
his championship title this year to the Red Bull driver, Sebastian Vettel, the youngest Formula One Champion ever. As the British driver finished the last race of the season in third place on the podium, he insisted that he is going to come back next year
stronger in form and faster in pace. Although, he has driven with McLaren for only one season, he has expressed a lot of confidence in the team staying that he is anticipating seeing next year’s car, which he believes would be even more competitive than last
season’s.
McLaren has wrapped up the season in second while the Austrian team Red Bull took the Championship title.
While talking to the press earlier today the 30-year-old said, "We don't have the F-duct next year, which is a bit sad because we have a great system. I've never driven with KERS before, but this team used KERS last year and used
it well - I know because they kept coming by me at the start! They have so much experience in that area that I think we'll have an advantage - as will Mercedes and Force India, who use Mercedes engines.”
Moreover, as per the new FIA rules the adjustable front wing has also been forbidden. Although the driver thinks that this is going to make the car slower yet he is of the view that it will add to oversteering and understeering.
Explaining the new rule the handsome young driver said that the rear wing will now only be used for overtaking, when both the drivers will be separated by a few seconds.
As per the regulations for the next season, the cars will not have the adjustable front wing, for which many of the teams fear that keeping balance of the car will be very difficult. Since refueling is banned during the race, the
cars start the race with around 150kg of fuel while by the end it is left with just 5kg. The drivers will now be facing even a tougher test of keeping their cars balanced without these wings.
However, Button is still confident as he says, "The rest of the car is pretty much the same."
