Jenson Button sets fastest time in FP2 of 2012 Monaco Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
McLaren driver Jenson Button has set the fastest time in second free practice session of 2012 Monaco Grand Prix held at Circuit de Monaco.
The British driver topped the timesheets in FP2 with his best time of 1 minute and 15.746 seconds on supersoft compound tyres just before the rain hit the track in the afternoon. Moreover, he completed 17 laps and stayed ahead of Romain Grosjean of Lotus
who after completing 19 laps set his quickest time of 1 minute and 16.138 seconds.
The French driver was followed by Felipe Massa of Ferrari who has been seen struggling in the season so far. Nonetheless, the Brazilian driver set the third fastest lap time of 1 minute and 16.602 seconds while he covered 21 laps.
Massa remained ahead of his teammate, Fernando Alonso who came 4th on the timesheets with his best time of 1 minute and 16.661 seconds. Furthermore, the Spaniard completed 23 laps and was followed by Pastor Maldonado of Williams who set his quickest time
of 1 minute and 16.820 seconds.
The Venezuelan driver was followed by Nico Rosberg of Mercedes who set the 6th best time of 1 minute 17.021 seconds. Additionally, he covered 15 laps and stayed ahead of Mark Webber of Red Bull Racing who came 7th on the timesheets with his fastest time
of 1 minute and 17.148 seconds.
Kamui Kobayashi of Sauber-Ferrari set the 8th quickest time of 1 minute and 17.153 seconds. In addition, the Japanese driver completed 22 laps and was followed by Michael Schumacher of Mercedes who set the fastest time of 1 minute and 17.293 seconds.
The seven-time world champion remained ahead of Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull who came 10th on the timesheets with his best lap time of 1 minute and 17.303 seconds. Besides, the defending champion covered 21 laps and was followed by Lewis Hamilton of McLaren
who set his quickest time of 1 minute and 17.375 seconds.
Paul di Resta of Force India came 12th on the timesheets with his best time of 1 minute and 17.395 seconds. Di Resta covered 21 laps and stayed ahead of Bruno Senna of Williams who set the 13th fastest time of 1 minute and 17.655 seconds.
Senna was followed by Force India driver Nico Hulkenberg who stood at 14thplace in the timesheets with his quickest time of 1 minute and 17.800 seconds.
Sergio Perez of Sauber completed 24 laps and set the 15th best time of 1 minute and 18.251 seconds. Perez was followed by Vitaly Petrov of Caterham who stayed ahead of Toro Rosso pair of drivers, Jean-Eric Vergne and Daniel Ricciardo.
It has been forecasted that the rain may hit the circuit again on Saturday and Sunday. Even though, many drivers have developed a good understanding of the wet track during FP2, however, no predictions can be made for the race ahead.
