Jenson Button shows trust in the abilities of Martin Whitmarsh – Formula 1 news
McLaren’s Jenson Button has said that he has full faith in the abilities of team principal Martin Whitmarsh, who is under immense pressure at the moment because of the lacklustre performances of the car in the 2013 Formula 1 season.
According to the British driver, “Martin's is a really good leader and he's a proper human being as well. He's a guy that you can trust, you can believe in and I feel that everyone at the factory, all the people I speak to when I'm there, feel exactly the
same.”
Last year, the Woking based squad was in a position to fight for victories with consistency and they were right at the top of the championship with the likes of Ferrari and Red Bull. However, they have disappointed their fans all over the world, as their
drivers Button and Sergio Perez have been unable to score points, let alone victories, in some races.
With the teams now headed for the British GP, Whitmarsh will be hoping to at least score a podium. However, his drivers will need a miracle in order to achieve such a strong result, as the rival squads are way ahead at the moment and even smaller teams like
Force India are in a position to outperform McLaren.
Despite that, Button claims that the team will be trying its best to entertain the fans in Silverstone. He admitted that winning a race will not be possible, but a better result compared to the previous rounds would be satisfying.
According to the 2009 world champion, “Fighting for a win is going to be very difficult for here, and I know that's what the British fans want, but I don't think we're going to be able to give them that. But we're going to do the best job we can and fight
for as many points as we can.”
It would be great if McLaren end up getting double points from the next race. They were unable to make an impression last time around in Canada, where both their drivers ended outside the points. However, the track characteristics in Silverstone are completely
different and might help Button and Perez to fight for a solid result.
