Jenson Button still confident for the 2010 title
Jenson Button is still hopeful that he can turn the tables around any day.
Button was forced out of the last race of the season after he had a crash with Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull, who made a wrong move while preventing his car from spinning at the wet track of Spa-Francorchamps.
Button, the title defender of the season, was only a place behind his team mate Lewis Hamilton, who was leading the race at Spa-Francorchamps, expecting to give McLaren a 1-2 finish when Vettel’s car went out of control, putting not only his race of the day to an end but also dimming his chances of a title win.
Button retired right there while Vettel kept on moving only to make more mistakes on the track, finally finishing the race pointless at fifteenth place.
As the teams are now heading for the next race of the season, at another very tricky yet classy track, Monza, Button expressed his aspirations for the rest of the season while talking to the media. He told, "Obviously, my non-finish in Spa wasn't ideal for my championship aspirations, so I head to Monza this weekend determined to put myself back in the hunt for the title."
The Italian Grand Prix is thought to be a decisive race for the season, which might bring the fight for the title to an end for some of the racers. Since three of the top five drivers, Sebastian Vettel, Jenson Button and Fernando Alonso returned pointless last week the battle for the championship has already been closer to Lewis Hamilton of McLaren and Mark Weber of Red Bull, holding the first and second places of the championship respectively.
Now Button pronounced his hopes for the next race saying that the team’s pace all through the weekend in Belgium was very encouraging and had they not met the mishap because of the Red Bull driver, his second place finish on the podium was definite.
He continued telling that the team came up with an excellent car at the last race and now they had further developed their package therefore he is expecting to be even more competitive on the track this weekend.
The British driver exclaimed, “I'm optimistic that we'll be able to maintain that form in Italy this weekend.”
He further went on telling that he had always been very confident for the engineers of McLaren and he knows now as well that the factory is working very hard to bring a package that should suit the track of Italy perfectly.
Moreover, the driver also has a high morale owing to the fact that the team has clearly announced once again that they would not carry any team orders, despite the fact that Hamilton is in a better wining position. But, still the team will be extending all their support to Button till the last race.
Well, at the same time Hamilton is also looking forward keenly to bag victory at Monza, to complete his tally of conquering all the historic tracks of Formula One Calendar.
Hamilton, while talking to the reporters about the Italian Grand Prix said, "I've made no secret of my wish to win this race. Monza is an incredible circuit – full of history and stories from the past. It has a special feeling in the air that you don't find anywhere else in the world," he continued telling. "It's a circuit that inspires you to race at your limit, and I'll be pushing hard all weekend. Finally, I'm looking forward to meeting the Italian fans this weekend. I pretty much grew up racing karts in Italy, so I've always appreciated and understood the passion and support of the fans for Formula 1, and motorsport in general."
