Jenson Button suffers fuel problem at Italian Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Jenson Button of McLaren retired in the 33rd lap of the Italian Grand Prix at the Monza circuit due to a fuel system problem.
Despite his retirement, he is positive about McLaren as it has proven its strong position over the circuit.
The British rider has some doubts about the issue he faced at the Monza circuit, however he is told that it was a problem with the fuel system of his car. The problem is still being investigated.
He said, “I don't entirely know what caused my car to stop. I'm told it was a fuel system problem that we're still investigating. The engine cut out and I had to coast to a stop. These things happen.”
He appreciated his team for their impressive performance, as they have proven their strong performance during the qualifying round and during the race. He added that consistency is the main key which has not been achieved by any team throughout the season.
Button added, “But, looking for the positives, I want to offer my congratulations to the whole team. We've proven over the past few races that we're very strong in both qualifying trim and race trim. That consistency is really key, and we haven't seen that
form from any team all season, so that's very encouraging indeed.”
Furthermore, talking about the Italian GP, he told that he was struggling from wheel spin at the start which caused to drop him to third and he lost a lot of time behind Felipe Massa of Ferrari. He added that it was nice to cross him later and gain some
gap. After overtaking Massa, he was chasing his teammate Lewis Hamilton.
Moreover, he said that he would have liked it if both McLaren drivers would have finished at the first and second position. He added that he did not want to challenge Hamilton for the win.
Button was in a strong position when he retired in his 33rd lap. It was expected that he would be able to make it on the podium at the 2nd place, but he retired.
Let’s see how he comes up in the upcoming Singapore Grand Prix scheduled on September 23, 2012.
