Jenson Button takes pole for 2012 Belgian Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
McLaren driver Jenson Button has taken the pole position for the 2012 Belgian Grand Prix at Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps after showing an amazing pace behind the wheel of his car MP4-27.
Button has secured his first pole position of the current season at Spa after setting the quickest time of 1 minute and 47.573 seconds. Moreover, he completely dominated the qualifying with his remarkable performance.
The 2009 world champion was followed by Kamui Kobayashi of Sauber who also showed an impressive pace and set the second fastest time of 1 minute and 47.871 seconds.
The Japanese driver stayed ahead of Pastor Maldonado of Williams who after facing immense difficulties in the last few races performed quite convincingly in the qualifying of the upcoming race and secured third grid position.
Kimi Raikkonen of Lotus set the 4th best time and was followed by Sergio Perez of Sauber who also showed an inspiring pace and secured 5th grid slot for the race ahead.
Fernando Alonso of Ferrari came 6th in the timesheets with his fastest time of 1 minute and 48.313 seconds. Furthermore, the Spaniard was followed by his main rival, Mark Webber of Red Bull Racing who set the 7th best time. However,
the Aussie will face five-place grid penalty for his unscheduled gearbox change and will begin the race from 12th grid position.
Lewis Hamilton of McLaren set the 8th best time but will take the start from 7th place in the grid on Sunday as Webber has been hit by the penalty.
The 2008 world champion was followed by Romain Grosjean of Lotus who remained ahead of Paul di Resta of Force India.
Sebastian Vettel could not make his way into the top ten grid positions and came 11th in the charts. The defending champion was followed by Nico Hulkenberg of Force India who stood ahead of the seven-time world champion, Michael Schumacher of
Mercedes.
Felipe Massa could not qualify for the third session and came 14th in the timesheets. Additionally, the Brazilian driver remained ahead of Toro Rosso pair of drivers, Jean-Eric Vergne and Daniel Ricciardo.
Ricciardo was followed by Bruno Senna of Williams who stayed ahead of Nico Rosberg. It is to be noted that Rosberg will start the race from 23rd grid position because he has to face five-place grid penalty.
Over and above, Caterham drivers, Heikki Kovalainen and Vitaly Petrov failed to make their way into the second session of the qualifying and secured 19th and 20th places in the timesheets.
