Jenson Button thinks Lewis Hamilton will stay at McLaren in next season – Formula 1 news
McLaren driver Jenson Button thinks that his teammate, Lewis Hamilton will stay at his current team in 2013, regardless of the ongoing rumours linking him to Mercedes.
Hamilton’s deal with the Woking based team is going to expire at the conclusion of this season and there have been a lot of speculations that he will join the Brackley based team in the next year.
Moreover, it will be important to mention that the chief executive of Formula 1, Bernie Ecclestone has said that Michael Schumacher will leave Mercedes after this year. Hence, Hamilton can be deemed as a potential replacement of the seven-time world champion.
Even though, the sporting director of McLaren, Sam Michael has expressed that they are presently having an advance level conversation with the British driver about the new agreement. However, Hamilton has refused to comment in this regard and has also underplayed
the reports that he is going to Mercedes in the future.
Meanwhile, Button has recently said that he doesn’t believe that his compatriot will switch to the Silver Arrow after the end of this season. In addition, he praised his team and said that they are surely in a position to fight for the championship title
this year.
“I think I'll have the same team-mate next year because this is the best place for him,” Button said. “If you're in the same place for too long, it can get a bit stale, but not here. This is a great team and a team that's always giving us a chance to fight
for wins.”
Besides, he said that he is not sure whether they will win the championship battle or not, nonetheless, he said that their team will certainly provide them with strong chances to score wins in the remaining season. Over and above, he said that he expects
the same drive line-ups in the coming year.
“Whether we've had chance to fight for the championship, that's another question, but they always give you possibility of winning grands prix and that's what a driver wants. I don't think anything will change next year in terms of driver line-ups, but I
might be wrong,” he added.
