Jenson Button thinks title win is a long way to go – Formula 1 news
McLaren driver Jenson Button has said that there is still a long way to go to win the 2012 Formula 1 World Championship title after winning the Belgian Grand Prix.
Button took his first pole position of the current season and performed amazingly well in the preceding race as he completely dominated with his updated car MP4-27.
Although he is feeling immensely delighted with his performance in at Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps and is really happy to set off the second half of the season with a victory. However, he believes that he needs to work really hard to be at the top of the
drivers’ standings as he is still 63 points behind the current leader, Fernando Alonso of Ferrari who unfortunately could not score even a single point last week due to the severe crash.
In addition, he said that the fight is on and every contender is making the best of the preparations to come up stronger in the upcoming races. He also said that it is almost impossible to make any kind of projections about the races ahead as the season
until now has been quite unpredictable.
Besides, he said that he is not sure at the moment how they will show up in the Italian GP because Autodromo di Monza is quite different track as compared to the Spa in terms of downforce level and temperature conditions.
“It's a massive long shot to win the title but today proves that you can claw back 25 points very very quickly,” he said. “A great day for me, but still 63 points (behind). Anything is possible. Monza is a circuit like this in a way, so yeah, there's a good
possibility that we will have good pace there. Whether we will be as competitive as we were here we still have to wait and see. The temperatures will be different - it is a little bit different in terms of downforce level so we will see.”
Above and beyond, he said that they have got the skills and abilities to win the championship title this year for which they are working at their best.
