Jenson Button tops Turkish practice session as Mercedes’ duo completes top four – Formula 1 news
The free practice session two is over in Turkey and Jenson Button of McLaren-Mercedes tops the table with a fastest time of 1 minute and 26.456 seconds.
Button’s time was almost 15 seconds faster than the FP1 fastest time of Mark Webber.
The weather finally got dry and all drivers and teams got a chance to bag some quick laps. Button completed many laps and had a trouble free session as compared to FP1 where he and his teammate Lewis Hamilton waited in the pits for the weather to settle
down.
Hamilton was third on the table with a fastest time of 1 minute and 27.033 seconds. Surprisingly, Mercedes duo of Nico Rosberg and Michael Schumacher finished second and fourth respectively. Nico Rosberg did a fastest lap of 1 minute and 26.521 seconds while
the seven-time world champion, Schumacher did a fastest of 1 minute and 27.063 seconds.
Red Bull team had an off day in Turkey where their premium driver Sebastian Vettel crashed his RB7 in the first practice session and was unable to compete in the second session. Vettel’s teammate Webber was the fastest in FP1 and finished fifth in FP2.
Ferrari’s Felipe Massa was sixth on the table with a fastest of 1 minute and 27.340 seconds. The Brazilian’s teammate, Fernando Alonso faced a problem with his car’s hydraulics and had to stop for a reliability check. The Spaniard finished 11th
on the table almost two seconds off drift than Button.
Seventh, eighth and ninth were the three rookies of the season, Vitaly Petrov of Renault, Paul Di Resta of Force India and Sergio Perez of Sauber. All of them completed their fastest laps within 1.5 seconds of Button’s fastest time of the day.
Completing the top ten drivers was Force India’s Adrian Sutil who did a fastest of 1 minute and 28.052 seconds.
The final practice session will be contested on Saturday after which the race qualifiers will be contested. So far, only Vettel has fell victim to the famous turn eight and it will be interesting to see how the drivers cope with that corner.
