Jenson Button tops the timesheets in FP1 of 2012 German Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
McLaren driver Jenson Button has topped the timesheets in the first free Friday practice session of 2012 German Grand Prix at Hockenheimring.
Button set the fastest time of 1 minute and 16.595 seconds and seemed quite comfortable behind the wheel of his updated car MP4-27. Moreover, he completed 27 laps and remained ahead of his teammate, Lewis Hamilton who covered 22 laps and set the second fastest
time of 1 minute and 17.093 seconds.
Hamilton was followed by Fernando Alonso of Ferrari who came third in the timesheets with his best time of 1 minute and 17.370 seconds. Furthermore, the Spaniard completed 21 laps and remained busy in collecting the necessary information regarding the upgrade
package of F2012.
Michael Schumacher of Mercedes set the fourth quickest time of 1 minute and 17.382 seconds. Besides, he covered 20 laps and stayed ahead of Sergio Perez of Sauber who came fifth in the timesheets with his best laptime of 1 minute and 17.413 seconds.
The Mexican driver was followed by Nico Hulkenberg of Force India who completed 17 laps and set the sixth fastest time of 1 minute and 17.599 seconds. The German driver remained ahead of his compatriot, Nico Rosberg of Mercedes who set the 7th
best time of 1 minute and 17.915 seconds.
Felipe Massa of Ferrari came on the track just after his teammate, Alonso and set the 8th quickest time of 1 minute and 17.995 seconds. Additionally, he covered 22 laps and remained ahead of Pastor Maldonado of Williams.
The Venezuelan driver stayed ahead of Romain Grosjean of Lotus who came 10th on the timesheets with his fastest time of 1 minute and 18.130 seconds.
Kamui Kobayashi of Sauber completed 22 laps and set the 11th best time of 1 minute and 18.226 seconds. He was followed by the defending champion, Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull Racing who could only set the 12th quickest time of 1 minute
and 18.339 seconds.
In addition, the veteran German driver covered 21 laps and was followed by Williams’ test driver, Valtteri Bottas.
Daniel Ricciardo of Toro Rosso came 14th in the timesheets with his best time of 1 minute and 18.709 seconds.
Ricciardo stayed ahead of Kimi Raikkonen of Lotus who stood at 15th place in the timesheets and could only cover 14 laps. The Finnish driver was followed by Jules Bianchi of Force India who completed 21 laps and gathered some essential data for
the assessment of their car’s updates.
Jean-Eric Vergne of Toro Rosso came 17th in the timesheets and stayed ahead of Caterham pair of drivers, Vitaly Petrov and Heikki Kovalainen.
Mark Webber of Red Bull covered 27 laps and collected some vital information concerning the updates in RB8. However, he came 20th in the timesheets and was followed by Marussia drivers, Charles Pic and Timo Glock who stayed ahead of HRT pair of
drivers, Pedro de la Rosa and Daniel Clos.
