Jenson Button tops timesheets in FP2 of 2012 Spanish Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
McLaren driver Jenson Button has topped the timesheets of free Friday practice sessions in FP2 of 2012 Spanish Grand Prix held at Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona.
Button set the fastest time of 1 minute and 23.399 seconds while he managed to cover 38 laps. Moreover, he ran MP4-27 with new front wing on hard tyres in the beginning. Afterwards, he switched to soft tyres in the afternoon.
The Briton was followed by, Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull Racing who set his best time of 1 minute and 23.563 seconds. The defending champion stayed ahead of Nico Rosberg of Mercedes who completed 41 laps and came third after setting his quickest time of
1 minute and 23.771 seconds.
Button’s teammate and compatriot, Lewis Hamilton set the fourth fastest time of 1 minute and 23.909 seconds. Furthermore, the 2008 world champion covered 32 laps.
Kimi Raikkonen of Lotus came fifth with his best time of 1 minute and 23.918 seconds. The Finnish driver was followed by his teammate, Romain Grosjean who set the sixth quickest time of 1 minute and 23.964 seconds.
The French driver remained ahead of Mark Webber of Red Bull who came 7th with his best lap time of 1 minute and 24.065 seconds.
Michael Schumacher of Mercedes set the 8th fastest time of 1 minute and 24.080 seconds. Besides, the seven-time world champion managed to cover 36 laps.
Kamui Kobayashi of Sauber came 9th after setting his quickest time of 1 minute and 24.214 seconds. The Japanese driver completed 41 laps and stayed ahead of Nico Hulkenberg of Force India who set his best time of 1 minute and 24.365 seconds after covering

Ferrari driver Felipe Massa who has been facing difficulties in finding the pace in the season so far came 11th on the timesheets with his best time of 1 minute and 24.418 seconds.
The Brazilian driver was followed by Sergio Perez of Sauber who after completing 32 laps set the 12th best time of 1 minute and 24.422 seconds. Pastor Maldonado of Williams came 13th with his quickest lap time of 1 minute and 24.468 seconds after covering
40 laps.
The Spaniard, Fernando Alonso after topping the timesheets in FP1 could only set 14th fastest time of 1 minute and 24.600 seconds, most probably because he was testing the car for extensive race configuration.
Alonso stayed ahead of Paul di Resta of Force India who was followed by the pair of Toro Rosso drivers, Jean-Eric Vergne and Daniel Ricciardo.
Over and above, there was a significant increase in the pace of the cars in the second session as compared to the first one, mainly as a result of switching from hard to soft Pirelli tyres.
