Jenson Button uncertain about his future teammate Sergio Perez – Formula 1 news
McLaren’s Jenson Button says it will be tough for Sauber F1’s Sergio Perez as he replaces Lewis Hamilton from the next season.
“It's going to be a tricky seat for Checo [Perez] to fill. Lewis is a guy who has won the World Championship and had so many wins and races with this team,” he said. “It is a massive ask but what else can you do? You need to have someone in the car and he
is quick. I've heard he's intelligent too. I don't know if he will be up to it straight away. He is going to be spending a lot of time in the UK at the factory.”
Button added that he is not sure if Perez will be able to give a top performance right from the beginning so he will be spending a lot of time and learning new things at the McLaren factory in Woking, England. He said only time will tell better and he does
expect the young driver to be competitive. He insisted that Perez has a lot of experience to gain and it is not possible for him to lead the team from the very first race, but then he can always surprise them.
Meanwhile, ever since the confirmation, Perez has been having a rough time as he has been involved in some racing incidents and only scoring a single point during the last six races. However, Perez has denied about losing his focus because he is distracted
by the McLaren deal. He says that the critics will keep raising questions and he will be only able to prove himself by performing next year. He says he is determined to secure the world championship for the team.
McLaren team principal, Martin Whitmarsh, had also stated that bringing in the young driver might be risk. He also confessed about being unconcerned with the lack of performance as he thinks that Perez has the potential to learn and the incidents that he
has been involved with are just part of the sport.
Presently, Perez is preparing himself for his last race with Sauber this weekend stating that it will an emotional one.
