Jenson Button underplays Fernando Alonso’s victory in 2012 European GP – Formula 1 news
McLaren driver Jenson Button has underplayed the victory of Fernando Alonso of Ferrari in 2012 European Grand Prix held at Valencia Street Circuit in Spain.
Alonso showed an impressive performance in the last race and became the first driver to score two race wins in the season so far.
On the other hand, Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull Racing set the best pace in the qualifying of the European GP and dominated the race after starting from the pole position. He had a 20-seconds lead when unfortunately he was retired due to the failure of his
alternator.
Even though, Button said that Alonso performed really well in the last race, however, he believed that Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull Racing was amazing.
“Most of the drivers in Formula One are immensely talented and many will challenge for Championships in future. But Fernando is one of stand-out drivers. He won his home grand prix, when everything fell into place,” said Button. “Sometimes when you make
those moves, they don't work out. And you end up in wall. Was his performance scary? No, he just did a great job, and so did his team with strategy. The scary one is Red Bull. The pace that Sebastian had was amazing. He was on fire, and had a massive difference
in pace to the rest of the field.”
In addition, it will be important to mention that the Spaniard has successfully limited the damage for his team which faced immense difficulties during the start of the season. Furthermore, he is currently leading the drivers’ championship with 111 points
and he is 20 points ahead of Mark Webber of Red Bull.
Meanwhile, the defending champion is standing at 4th place in the drivers’ rankings with 85 points. Besides, he is 10 points ahead of Nico Rosberg of Mercedes and 3 points behind Lewis Hamilton of McLaren.
The current season has brought many surprises for the spectators as there had been seven different winners in the first seven races. Over and above, it will be very interesting to see how the season makes progress for all the contenders.
