Jenson Button unfazed by Paddy Lowe’s departure - Formula 1 news
McLaren’s Jenson Button is confident that his team will deliver the goods, despite Paddy Lowe’s departure from the outfit by the end of this year.
Lowe was working as a technical director for McLaren over the past couple of years and his efforts helped the team to challenge for race victories with consistency. However, he has now signed
a new deal with Mercedes for the 2014 season, which means that he will end his ties with the current outfit after this season.
The veteran racing engineer will not be working as a technical director for McLaren this year, as he has been replaced by Tim Goss, who will now be responsible for the team’s performance
this season.
Although Lowe will still be with the team, his role has yet not been defined by McLaren. However, one thing is quite sure that Button is relaxed about the entire situation.
The veteran driver stated, “I really like Paddy. It's been good fun working with him over the past three years, not just in a working relationship but also as a friend because he is a good
guy, a fun character. But things change, he wants to try something new, a new challenge, which is fair play to him.”
Moreover, the 2009 Formula 1 champion stated that he had full confidence in the abilities of Lowe’s replacement. He said, “For me, having Tim in the position he is now in - fantastic. He
was exceptional in his previous role and I think he will be in this role. He is the guy who designed the 2012 car that won seven races last year, so he knows exactly what he is doing.”
Button will be hoping to make an impact this year, as there will be lesser pressure on him compared to the previous seasons, when Lewis Hamilton partnered him. Although both drivers complemented
each other nicely, the team focussed more on the latter and backed him fully to fight for the championship.
This year, Hamilton has moved to Mercedes whereas he will be replaced by young Mexican Sergio Perez, who delivered some impressive results with his team Sauber. This means that Button will
now be the lead driver for McLaren and the team will support him to battle at the top.
