Jenson Button wants victory in 2012 British Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
McLaren driver Jenson Button has said that he wants victory in 2012 British Grand Prix which is to be held at Silverstone Circuit on July 8.
Button has not been able to win any race in his homeland in his career in the sport so far. Moreover, he has been struggling with finding his true pace as he could only score 6 points in the last five grands prix.
Nevertheless, the 2009 world champion said that his home race is very special to him and he has been confidently looking forward to perform well in order to express his gratitude towards his fans for their support.
“I've always thought about what it would be like to win the British Grand Prix,” Button said. “I've imagined it, of course. Of course, I haven't even been on the podium yet but winning it would be very special for me. Lewis won it in ‘08. Now I want to win
it. That has to be my aim for this weekend, and it would be something to give to the fans.”
It will be important to mention that Button’s teammate, Lewis Hamilton backed up his compatriot and is hoping to see him victorious.
“Let's not forget Jenson has been around for a long, long time,” Hamilton said. “His day will come, and when it does, I hope I'm there as well.”
At present, the Woking based team is standing at second place in the constructors’ championship with 137 points. Besides, they are 39 points behind Red Bull Racing and 11 points ahead of Lotus.
Meanwhile, Hamilton is at third place in the drivers’ rankings with 88 points between the Red Bull pair of drivers, Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber.
On the other hand, Button is at 8th position in the drivers’ championship with 49 points. Additionally, he is 10 points ahead of Sergio Perez of Sauber and 4 points behind Romain Grosjean of Lotus.
McLaren are undeniably one of the strongest and the most favourite contenders in this year’s fight for the championship title as they have got the perfect blend of expertise and talent.
