Jeorge Lorenzo – The 2010 Champion

Jorge Lorenzo has accomplished one of any rider’s lifelong ambitions, to become the MotoGP World Champion, and so he did in the 2010 MotoGP at the relatively tender age of 23. The amazing rider broke numerous records on his path
to glory to the world title with a total of nine victories and ending up16 times on the podium out of 18 races overall.
The Spaniard riding the Yamaha started off in glorious passion standing on the podium second to Valentino Rossi in the 1st round of the season at the Losail Circuit. The first of his wins came in Round 2 at Jerez with
his first premier class victory on home soil. The race did not yet start with the golden spoon to Lorenzo and he had to carve his way through the circuit after getting dropped at fifth but soon enough gaining control and taking the podium right from the top.
Among other wins, the hat-trick commencing at Estoril, took him ravishing through to the top on the winning streak with three consecutive wins at Silverstone, Assen and Catalunya circuits. This was the third year in a row that
the Fiat Yamaha rider took victory from pole position on the Portuguese circuit.
The race looked good for the Yamaha rider after seeing Nicky Hayden and team-mate Valentino Rossi lead at difference stages, yet keeping calm and adrenaline running high in his blood, he made his break on lap 17 pulling away with
a victory margin of 8.629s. Rossi finished second to Lorenzo and Yamaha took hold of all the titles, the Rider, Team and Constructor’s title to gain the Triple Crown.
On most occasions during the season, Honda were quite fast and determined to take the lead from Yamaha but Lorenzo’s dream became reality by the end of Round 15, when he finished third in line yet taking the crown in the overall
standings.
Lorenzo wrapped up the season with his ninth win of the season at Valencia that was “one of the happiest moments” of his life. With 383 points, Jorge Lorenzo topped the qualifying table for 2010. Lorenzo further said, “Coming here
to Valencia, I really wanted to win one more time in this fantastic season, in front of my home fans. I had a wonderful fight with Casey at the end.”
The season finale couldn’t have been any better for the Spaniard, as winning for the first time at Valencia and taking the title in front of his home crowd, became the perfect end to the 2010 MotoGP season. “Winning here in front
of my home crowd at this special track is one of the happiest moments of my life.”
Lorenzo was known to be a crazy rider who crashed too much but this season, topping with the most number of points with 383 scored; there was no looking back.
It was a season marked down as a huge success for MotoGP World Champion Jorge Lorenzo; the Spaniard was also rewarded with the BMW M Award, a brand new BMW M3 Coupe. Lorenzo shall be looking ahead to the 2011’s Yamaha YZR-M1 mean
machine. The prototype is yet in the tenting phase.
Next year, Lorenzo shall attempt to defend his title. Looking ahead he concluded, “In terms of concentration and focus it will be difficult, but I think my mind will be at the same level as this season, to get the same amount of
points, the same number of victories. It’s going to be extremely hard but it could happen again. This is a great thing about sport: you never know what will happen!”
Lorenzo also was a good sport, speaking about his Italian teammate/rival, “Thanks to Yamaha and everybody involved for a fantastic season – now we have time to celebrate tonight before we start working for 2011. I would like to
say goodbye and good luck to Valentino – I am looking forward to racing him next year!”
