Jeppe Huldahl retains the lead after day two of the Challenge de Catalunya
Jeppe Huldahl of Denmark carded a two-under par 70 in the second round of the European Challenge Tour's Challenge de Catalunya, and retained the top position, on Friday, September 28, 2012.
Under difficult playing conditions at Golf La Graiera in Calafell, Northern Spain, the Dane played a sensible game and kept his rivals away from himself on the leaderboard.
He got off to a decent start, as he parred each of the first five holes, prior to adding a shot on the sixth hole.
On the back nine of the course, he gained the second shot of the day with a birdie on the 10th hole. That was a time when it looked as if he will finish the day with an extended lead over his rivals.
However, a double bogey six on the 11th hole took him back to an equal-par score for the round. According to the 2010 Wales Open winner, the rain played a major role in his faltering performance on the 11th hole.
He stated that it was difficult for him to make accurate calculations, especially when the rain was pouring down on the 11th hole.
"It was a bit trickier out there today,” Huldahl said. “The wind came and we had three or four holes of heavy rain. It was also raining when I was playing the 11th and that is the toughest hole on the course so I double-bogeyed there”.
Despite suffering a huge hiccup, the Dane succeeded to make a strong comeback by carding two birdies in a row, on the 15th and the 16th hole.
His final score at the end of the two rounds was a 10-under par 134, which allowed him to settle one-stroke ahead of a pack of four players.
“I played all right though, I hit some good shots and I was pretty much cruising there for a while. There is still a long way to go but I am happy. I am in a good position for the weekend and I hope I can continue this way.”
Alessandro Tadini, Luke Goddard, Brooks Koepka and Nicolas Meitinger were all tied for the second spot on the leaderboard, after each scored a nine-under par two-round score.
