Jeranimo accustomed to a mile will try his luck in the Breeders’ Cup Mile this November
The 5-year-old Michael Pender trained Jeranimo is pointed toward the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Mile at Churchill Downs on 5 November, 2011, after he won the Grade 2 Oak Tree Mile at Santa Anita Park on 8 October, 2011, under Martin Garcia over a mile.
Jeranimo in the process took care of Mr. Commons and John Johny Jak, who finished second and third in the race, respectively, while Jeranimo covered the 1 mile distance in 1 minute and 32.61 seconds over the turf course.
The son of Congaree, out of Jera by Jeblar, Jeranimo has had seven starts this season and prior to the Grade 2 Oak Tree Mile, victory eluded him at every racecourse he ran on.
Out of those seven starts, Jeranimo finished three times on the money with a single win, and throughout the season he has done well over the distance of 1 mile.

Jeranimo ran over the distance of 1 mile in the Grade 1 Frank E. Kilroe Mile at Santa Anita on 5 March, 2011, but the experienced gelding couldn’t do much about the runs of Fluke and Caracortado, who were the top two on that day.
His third start of the season was also over at a mile, in the Grade 2 Arcadia Stakes also at Santa Anita Park’s turf course, where he again finished third, and this time couldn’t beat Liberian Freighter and Blue Chagall.
Jeranimo’s best race of the season after the Oak Tree Mile at Santa Anita was the Grade 1 Eddie Read Stakes, and he was up against the rampant Acclamation who at that time was piling up victories where even he went.
Over at a distance of 1 1/8 miles at Del Mar on 23 July, 2011, Jeranimo ran his heart out weaving his way through the traffic and turning in a fine rally against Acclamation, but couldn’t get the best of the determined runner, as he weakened to finish second.
However, in the process he took his revenge from his Frank E. Kilroe Mile rival Caracortado.
After performing so well over the distance of a mile this season, he will definitely start in the Breeders’ Cup Mile with a lot of optimism.
