Jeranimo stands out in the San Francisco Mile field
The Grade 3, $150,000 San Francisco Mile over the Golden Gate Fields turf course, figures to be a competitive field, which has reeled in the multiple grade 2 winner, Jeranimo, in a field of 11 that also has multiple stakes winners in the field.
The 1 mile turf race is exclusive for 4-year-old and above colts and geldings, and Jeranimo being a 6-year-old horse, looks to be the most accomplished horse in the 28 April, 2012 event.
Trained by Michael Pender for owner B. J. Wright, Jeranimo is coming off a close fourth place finish in the Grade 1 Frank E. Kilroe Mile to winner, Willyconker, who defeated Mr. Commons in second and Compari in third, while covering the 1 mile distance over
the Santa Anita Park’s unique hillside turf course in 1 minute and 33.88 seconds on 3 March, 2012.
The Florida bred, Jeranimo kicked off his 2012 campaign with a strong second place finish in the Grade 2 San Gabriel Stakes to Norvsky, also at Santa Anita’s turf course over a distance of 1 1/8 miles.
Jeranimo won the Grade 2 San Gabriel Stakes in 2010 coupled with Rafael Bejarano, when the pair were rampant enough in the stretch to down Proudinsky and The Usual Q. T., who finished second and third, respectively.
He topped the 1 1/8 mile distance back then in 1 minute and 47.20 seconds.
The Congaree horse shortened up after the San Gabriel Stakes to a mile, and it looks as if he is going to contest over mile distances from now on, and the San Francisco Mile will be contested over at equal weights of 122 pounds.
In the year 2011, Jeranimo was on the button more often than not, but he never gave the impression in his early races of the year that he doesn’t have the killing instinct to put the race to bed, until his last three races of the previous campaign.
Out of mare Jera by Jeblar, Jeranimo packed a mean punch in the Grade 2 Oak Tree Mile to win it over Mr. Commons and then took the Grade 2 Citation Handicap at Hollywood Park’s turf course.
