Jeranimo to face 8 other in the Citation Handicap over at Hollywood Park’s turf course
Flying high, Jeranimo looks to add to his riches after winning the Grade 2 Oak Tree Mile at Santa Anita Park. Now the 5-year-old Florida bred colt has flown all the way from Kentucky to Hollywood Park to participate in the $250,000 Citation Handicap held at Hollywood Park on 26 November, 2011, over at 1 1/16 miles on turf against 8 other 3-year-old and above colts and geldings.
After little ups and downs of the 2011 season, Jeranimo ended up in Breeders’ Cup to participate in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile, but there was no way out for Jeranimo in the 1 mile event to show his potential in the most important race of his career, as he finished a non threatening seventh at Churchill Downs on 5 November, 2011.
Trained by Michael Pender for owner B. J. Wright, Jeranimo is the son of Congaree out of mare Jera by Jeblar. The 3-year-old in his racing career has gone on to win six races out of 23 starts altogether with the earnings of $668,400, but Jeranimo has shown great liking to Hollywood Park’s turf course where currently he is 1 of 2.
He won an allowance race on the Hollywood Park’s turf course on 27 November, 2010, against the ominous runner Fluke and No Inflation, who finished second and third respectively, as Jeranimo with Rafael Bejarano in irons topped the 1 1/16 mile distance in 1 minute and 40.18 seconds.
The last time Jeranimo was at Hollywood Park was when he participated in the Grade 3 Inglewood Stakes over at its turf course, Jeranimo, was again tested to go all out at about 1 1/16 miles on 24 April, 2011.
Failed to gain a placed finish, Jeranimo finished fourth to winner Liberian Fighter who topped the distance in 1 minute and 39.70 seconds, as Ryehill Dreamer finished second and The Usual Q. T. finished third.
Third time lucky, as Jeranimo hopes to go 2 up at Hollywood Park when he will be facing John Johny Jak, the third placed Oak Tree Mile runner and second place finisher in the California Cup, Bob Black Jack.
