Jered Weaver sets the right tempo in the league as Los Angeles Angels look to go up
The Los Angeles Angels put in a tremendous effort as they beat Baltimore Orioles 11-2 on Sunday, September 18 at Oriole Park in Camden Yards.
The Angels dropped their chance to maintain a stable gap on Saturday, September 17 when the lost the series to the Baltimore Orioles. Going 4.5 games behind the Texas Rangers was not easy but the club managed to get a win in their final game of the series.
Jered Weaver picked up his 18th win of the season in style as he pitched the Orioles to the wall. He had a lot of support from his team-mates who were pouncing on Alfredo Simons. Angels’ manager Mike Scioscia was pleased to see his side get back
on the trail as they snatched an important win over the Orioles. Weaver pitched six innings, conceding just two runs off six hits and one walk.
He had trouble facing Vladimir Guerrero who led in a run with a triple and slammed a home-run in the bottom of the sixth. However the pressure never caught up on the hurler as the Angels produced eight runs in their first six innings.
"That's what (manager Mike) Scioscia wanted was to get a pretty good lead so he didn't have to push me that hard," Weaver said.
Weaver now is 18-7 and has an earned runs average of 2.42. He has attracted a lot of praise from his peers and the opposition.
"It was impressive for him to pitch that well with that amount of rest," Baltimore Orioles’ manager Buck Showalter said. "It's not so much the rest as it is pitchers being creatures of habit, and you kind of take them out of that schedule sometimes. He's
a warrior."
The player is looking to raise the club’s tempo and move on in the right direction as the Rangers have only three more series to finish on top.
"It was nice to get this win," Jered Weaver said.
Whether the Angels can finish on top or not, there is one thing for sure. Weaver is a game winner and if the Angels want their chances at getting through, he will be looking to feature more in the remaining games.
