Jered Weaver shines as Los Angeles Angels defeat Chicago White Sox 8-0 – MLB Update
Jered Weaver destroyed with the ball as the Los Angeles Angels stunned the Chicago White Sox giving them an 8-0 blow to get a series sweep at Angel Stadium of Anaheim on Wednesday, August 24.
Angels’ starter Jered Weaver, who recently signed an $85-million five-year extension contract, showed everyone the reason for his enormous contract and exorbitant price-tag. The right-hand ball thrower struck-out eight batters over his seven-shutout innings
to get his 15th win of the season. The 28-year-old hurler consumed only four hits off his 96 pitches to record his ERA at 2.03.
Bobby Cassevah handed the ball in the eighth and completed it in no time, punching out two batters over 10 pitches. Fernando Rodney allowed one hit but destroyed the White Sox with his fast sliders.
Erick Aybar led the game off with his line drive RBI single to take 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning. He then made another hit for an RBI double in the seventh.
Right fielder Torii Hunter stretched his home-runs to 18 with a stunning one-run homer in the third inning. Alberto Callaspo, Bobby Abreu each scored an RBI single while Jeff Mathis added an RBI double to pile eight run over struggling batting line-up.
The White Sox rookie starter Zach Stewart had a bad day with the ball, as he allowed seven runs on seven hits and walked two batters over six innings spell. The 24-year-old Texan also allowed a homer in his third loss of the season. It was his third straight
bad outing in the last four games he played for the White Sox.
Closer Josh Kinney also had an effect of the stormy hitting and gave one run on three hits over his two innings.
With this win, the Halos have extended their winning streak to six games and now they are moving ahead to face the Texas Rangers in an American League’s showdown. Angels will take on some fierce competition as the Rangers are on their best this season. The
series will start with a strong competition with Dan Haren and Derek Holland.
