Jered Weaver shines for the Los Angeles Angels as the Rangers crash to a 3 -6 loss (Part 2)

The Los Angeles Angels were tied in their game against the West Division leaders, Texas Rangers with a 1 – 1 score line. The fixture was played in the Angel Stadium of Anaheim and the match had entered the bottom 4th inning
with the hosts batting on the plate. Brandon Woods came in to bat for the team and that started the bid for the tie breaking run.
Brandon Wood walked onto the batting pad after Callaspo grounded out to the second. He was walked to the first, after which Jeff Mathis made his way to the plate. Wood got the right indication to move when Mathis doubled to the
deep right centre. Brandon ran three bases to make the score board tinker with one more Los Angeles run.
The hosts weren’t done and Peter Bourjos came in to fly out and put Mathis on third base. Howard Kendrick was the next man to walk over to the strike zone. He smashed a double to the left, releasing Mathis for the 3rd Anaheim
run of the day. Bobby Abreu came in next and he made Derek Holland pay as his ground rule double hit to the deep right got Kendrick to score the 4th for the ball club.
Texas were now tailing Los Angeles by three runs and the score line of 4 – 1 spelled out trouble for Ron Washington’s men. With the game closing into the second half, both teams stayed quiet. That was until the Anaheim Angels made
their way into the bottom 6th. Much to the delight of the 41, 404 fans in the Angel Stadium of Anaheim, the home team scored another two runs. Reliever, Dustin Nippert was pitching and he started off well, striking out Mathis on the bag. Peter Bourjos
however, came in with an intent to make a difference and his time on the diamond gave the Rangers a hard team.
Peter Bourjos made a big difference on Sunday and Monday was no different. The hard hitter made a bunt single to the catcher. Kendrick came in and Peter stole the second base to give Nippert a worrying sign. He hit Kendrick on
his following delivery and saw the first two bases fill up. Clay Rapada came in to relieve Dustin, but he didn’t last long either as Pedro Strop walked in as his replacement. However, that didn’t prove beneficial to the side as Peter and Kendrick ran up a
base on the diamond off Matt Treanor’s passed ball. Torii Hunter was next up on line for hitting and his single to the left got Bourjos and Howard through for two runs.
The Angels moved it 6 and that was a surmountable task for Rangers who were limping on 1. Fortunately for them, some good hitting came in the top 7th which saw the side go up by two runs. Matt Treanor was the man to
make up for his passed ball mistake earlier and he did so by starting with a walk to the first base. Julio Borbon then led the hitter to the second plate with a single to the left centre. He and Matt then got a suitable push from Elvis Andrus who grounded
into fielder’s choice to second for a single.
The scoring run finally came when Michael Young grounded into fielder’s choice to short stop and Treanor sprinted forth for a run to make it two for the visiting Texas side, while Elvis failed to make it to the second base. The
inning wasn’t over yet and David Murphy reappeared to single to the centre and get Young on to second base. Weaver was finally replaced and in came Kevin Jepsen to deputize the pitching duties. Vladimir Guerrero was back on for the side and his single to the
right got Young to the third base.
The run finally came when Nelson Cruz was walked. Young scored the third and ended the scoring trend of the match. The encounter ended with no further runs coming in the following innings. The Angels comprehensively beat the Rangers
with a 6 – 3 score line. This lines the next game up for a stellar battle. The visitors will look to exact some revenge on the hosts. It remains to be seen what transpires.
