Jered Weaver’s dominant pitching helps the Los Angeles Angels defeat Texas Rangers 4-1 – MLB Update
Los Angeles Angels’ starter Jered Weaver had an outstanding day with the ball as he pitched throughout the nine innings and had eight strike-outs in the Angels 4-1 victory over the Texas Rangers at Rangers Ballpark in Texas on 20
April.
Weaver was a first man in the Major League’s who played his part in five wins for the team. It was considered as the fifth complete game for Weaver in his baseball career. Weaver earned fame by getting five wins out of 18 games after the Oakland Athletics’
starter Dave Stewart. He allowed just one earned run on six hits with an ERA of 1.23 and did not permit a walk in 80 throws out of 119.
The other two veterans namely Vernon Wells and Howie Kendrick also had a crucial role in the Angel’s success as they struck home runs in the mid innings. Kendrick matched the record of the New York Yankees’ Mark Teixeira by striking the sixth homer of the
season and led the Angels with a big lead.
Jeff Mathis took an RBI single at the end to confirm a win for the Angels. With this victory, the Angels went up to the fifth spot in the American League West rankings. During the seventh inning, Mathis took a double and posted a run on Maicer Izturis’ single
to lead the Angels 3-1. He was attributed for his second sacrifice of the game off Matt Harrison.
The Angels took the loaded bases after the two-out walks of Kendrick and Izturis. On the next pitch, Torii Hunter was struck-out. His batting was poor as he went 0-4 with two strike-outs.
The Angels’ centre-fielder Peter Bourjos played a key role in the fifth inning to score a one-out triple. Bourjos lifted the morale of the Angels by catching the fly-ball of David Murphy around the front wall.
On the other side, the Rangers had the worst record in the current season as they lost six games out of eight. The Rangers’ starter Harrison performed well but not enough to squeeze a win for the Rangers. He gave three runs on four hits, including three
earned runs and struck-out five batters in six innings.
