Jeremiah Kim wishes a strong surge in the Asian Tour Order of Merit
Malaysia’s Jeremiah Kim has set his sights on winning the PGM-MIDF-KLGCC Masters, as the first professional victory of his career, when he tees of this week at the Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club.
Kim turned professional earlier this season and is among the strong field of the US$60,000 event that is the second last tournament on the Asian Development Tour roster.
The young Malaysian star currently ranks 41st in the Asian Tour Order of Merit and desperately needs a strong finish this week, in order to make a surge in the rankings.
He may not be able to break the top-3 mark in the Order of Merit. However, he still has a bright chance to make it into the top-15 in the standings.
According to the Asian Tour’s qualifying policy, the top-three players from the Asian Development Tour will receive automatic exemptions to play on the Asian Tour in 2013.
The other 12 players in the top-15 will earn their cards to the 2013 Qualifying School Final Stage in Thailand.
Talking to the Asian Tour’s official website, he stated that he will try his best to earn his Asian Tour card without going to the Qualifying School.
Otherwise, his goal will be to skip the First Stage of Qualifying School and qualify directly for the final stage.
“I’m enjoying my time on the ADT but it is tough. There are many talented young players on the Asian Tour and I feel that I can get to their level too. All these come with experience which I’m getting on the ADT,” said Kim.
Like Kim, Indonesian George Gandranata also turned professional this season and is hopeful to earn his maiden victory on the tour this week.
“The goal hasn’t changed. I hope I can win one tournament but it isn’t as easy as it sounds. All these guys are good. In terms of goals, I’m still gunning for the win and an Asian Tour card,” he said.
Talking to the reporters, he said that his goal early in the season was to make the cuts in the events that he was scheduled to play.
He then completely changed his approach and started playing for the top-10 finishes and wins.
