Jeremy Chardy eases past Javier Pantoja into 2nd round – Madrid Challenger 2011
French tennis pro Jeremy Chardy thrashed out Javier Banos Pantoja of Spain 6-3, 6-2 on Monday to book his place in the second round of 2011 Madrid Challenger series here in Madrid, Spain.
Chardy, who is seeded 5th at the Challengers tournament, looked in commanding form in a match that lasted for only 56 minutes. Breaking the serve at regular intervals, he did not allow his opponent to settle in the match.
Executing his game plan to perfection, he timed his big forehand and backhand winners all over the court.
Hitting seven serve aces and 57 per cent first serve, the Frenchman had no problems holding on to his service games. Timing his shots really well, he created all sorts of problems for his opponent from deep behind the baseline.
Using the hit and volley technique very smartly, he was up for the challenge.
Ranked 115th in the world, Chardy will be extremely happy about the way he responded to crucial stages during the contest. Playing the big points really well, he denied his rival quite a few break chances. He will be
looking to maintain his superb form in the upcoming matches as well to win his first title of the year.
Pantoja had his chances but he lacked the firepower in certain aspects of the game. Claiming less than half of the points on his own service games, he needs to bring a lot improvement in his serves if he wants to do well in his
future showings.
Chardy had a terrific start to the match and he broke the serve early in the opening set to dent his opponent’s confidence levels. Putting the challenger under immense pressure, he hit the ball really hard. Blasting a backhand
winner down the line, he bagged the set to take 1-0 set score lead.
The second set followed a very similar trend as Chardy continued to break his opponent at regular intervals. Firing a blazing serve ace, he completed an emphatic straight sets victory.
