Jeremy Chardy ousts Tobias Kamke in the opening round – Mercedes Cup 2011
The 24-year old, French, Jeremy Chardy, triumphed over 25-year-old, home-boy Tobias Kamke winning 7-6(1), 6-1 in the first round at the 2011 Mercedes Cup at TC Weissenhof Court in Stuttgart, Germany on Wednesday.
Meeting for the first time both players, had battled hard in the first set; the current world number fifty eight, Chardy, served six aces, three double faults, twenty one out of twenty six first serve points making it eighty one
percent along with winning a thirty nine percent of first return points. Both the players had managed to save their break points with an equal percentage (fifty percent each). The total service points won by the French were thirty two out of fifty giving him
a sixty four percent victory along with seventeen out of forty two total return points, hence winning fifty three percent of the total set points.
Even though, the German won sixty one percent of his first-serve points he could only manage to win nineteen percent of his first return points; he delivered two double faults and two aces hence, winning only forty seven percent
of the total set points. The world number eighty eight (Kamke) did not give up easily and kept bouncing back in the set, the game went to a 6-6 when the home-boy lost the tiebreaker making the score 7-6(1).
In the second set Chardy served two aces, had zero double faults, total service points were seventeen out of twenty three making it seventy four percent and total return points were eight out of fourteen making it fifty seven percent,
thus, total set points won were twenty five out of thirty seven making it a sixty eight percent win of the set.
While Kamke served zero aces, had three double faults, total service points were six out of fourteen making it a mere forty three percent and total return points were six out of twenty three making it a mere twenty six percent,
thus, total points won were twelve out of thirty seven making it thirty two percent; it appeared the German was worn out, even though he was able to save two out of four break points, he was unable to win the only break point advantage; his opponent managed
to save a hundred percent of his break points and availed two out of the four break point opportunities that were presented to him. Hence, Jeremy won the second set 6-1.
Overall, the German served two aces, struck three double shots, won fifty five percent of his total service points and accomplished thirty three percent of total return points, thus attaining a total of fifty five points out of
a hundred and twenty nine match points. Whereas, Jeremy smashed eight aces, had three double faults, saved two break points out of a total of three making it sixty seven percent and out of a total of six break point advantages he managed to avail three to
his leeway.
His total service points won were forty nine out of seventy three giving him a sixty seven percent win, he won twenty five out fifty six total return points making it a forty five percent win, his total match points won out of
a hundred and twenty nine were seventy four making it a fifty seven percent win, hence, gaining an upper hand won straight two set victory over Tobias.
The current world number fifty eight, Jeremy Chardy will be facing Santiago Giraldo in the second round.
