Jeremy Clarkson slams Andy Murray’s “weeping performance” at Wimbledon final – Tennis News
Andy Murray’s heartbreaking loss to the Swiss Maestro Roger Federer in the final of Wimbledon Championships forced him to burst into tears at the presentation ceremony. The top ranked Brit was barely able to speak and kept sobbing
the whole time while delivering his final words to his home crowd. Many viewed it as an attempt from Murray gain some sympathy after his fourth Grand Slam final loss but Jeremy Clarkson absolutely blasted at his act of weeping, calling it “pathetic”.
“What he actually did was blub, whimpering and mewling like a hysterical little girl whose puppy dog had gone missing,” the Top Gear star cited for Murray. “It was pathetic. And guess what – he suddenly became a national hero.”
Clarkson expected a more ‘manly’ reaction from the British tennis ace instead of moaning for his defeat. It was extremely disappointing for a tennis player who has reached the final of Grand Slam events four times and has been
defeat on every occurrence to remain away from glory. Murray posted a far better performance in his recent Major final and won the opening set of the match, something he hasn’t done in a Grand Slam final before. He was outshined by the brilliance of the all-time
great, Federer, who reeled off the last three sets of the match to lift his seventh Wimbledon title.
Losing a huge matchup in front of his family and home crowd is also something which has never happened in Murray’s career. Perhaps it was the ache of disappointing the entire British nation which caused tears to roll down his cheeks
but Clarkson believes he should have taken positive lessons from his defeat and move ahead with greater determination. He even went on to say Murray “a man with the personality of the vacuum cleaner”
He said: “We live on a solid little rock in the Atlantic. It’s cold. It’s wet. We admire the bulldog spirit. We keep calm and carry on.”
Indeed Murray needs to move on with his ambitions and redeem himself with a brilliant performance at the upcoming Olympic Games in London. He is one of the finest players Britain has ever produced but such childish acts of whimpering
malign his image of a top class professional.
