Jeremy Flores and Gabriel Villaran triumphant in men’s Repercharge Round 7 of Billabong ISA World Surfing Games
The seventh round of Billabong International Surfing Association (ISA) World Surfing Games’ men’s open Repercharge went down at the beach-break of Playa Venao in Panama on Thursday, June 30th.
France’s Jeremy Flores walked away victorious from the first heat of the round, leaving Chile’s Manuel Selman to settle for second position, while Venezuela’s Francisco Bellorin rounded out the third position. While the French and Chilean advance to the
next round, the Venezuelan was eliminated from the competition.
In the second heat, Peru’s Gabriel Villaran got hold of the top spot, while Brazil’s Michael Rodrigues finished second to advance to the next stage of the event. Ruda Carvalho, also from Brazil, was ejected from competition after finishing at the bottom.
For some reason, it was still difficult to digest the fact that Flores was currently in the repercharge round. However, the French managed to redeem himself to some extent by prevailing over his competition in the first heat.
Early in the heat, Flores caught a wave to earn 7.00 and move into the lead. Adding an additional 7.62 points to his account, he finished with a heat-total of 14.62.
Selman had no intention of letting the French walk away with a comfortable win and put up a determined fight. However, he was unable to deny his rival of victory and eventually settled for second-place finish. He scored 6.30 and 8.20 off his two waves to
finish with a two-wave total of 14.50 points.
Bellorin remained the weakest surfer in the line-up, though the difference in his performance and the rest was not that huge. He finished with a heat-total of 13.00.
In the second heat, Villaran emerged triumphant after collecting a couple of impressive scores, which included a 7.20 and 7.46, to finish with a heat-total of 14.66 points.
Rodrigues put up a commendable performance during the heat, earning an amazing 8.06 points off his first wave to enjoy the lead for a while. He followed that effort with a 6.04 off his second wave, which left him with a two-wave total of 14.10 points, 0.56
short of Villaran. As a result, Rodrigues had to surrender victory to his Peruvian rival.
Carvalho scored 4.80 points off his first wave and 5.86 off his second to finish with a two-wave total of 10.66 points. The disappointing effort put him out of the competition.
