Jeremy Flores defeats Adrian Buchan to walk into Round 4 of Billabong Rio Pro – Surfing News
France’s Jeremy Flores got the better of Australia’s Adrian Buchan in the 11th heat of Billabong Rio Pro’s Round 3 that continued at the main event site of Barra da Tijuca in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on Tuesday, May 15.
The result of the Round 3 bout carried Flores into the fourth round of the third of ten stops on the 2012 Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) World Title Series, while Buchan found himself removed from the contention for the event title.
The high-performance surfing conditions prevailing at the primary event site on the latest day of Billabong Rio Pro had been delivering a heavy dose of enthralling action. The world’s best surfers were determined to stay alive in the contention for the event
title and thus kept pushing their limits in three-to-five foot barrels that were on offer, much to the delight of the massive crowd in attendance and thousands of webcast viewers worldwide.
The 11th heat of Round 3 saw Flores taking on Buchan in a battle for the Round 3 spot. Both the surfers had done quite well to keep themselves in contention for the event title despite the unfavourable surfing conditions that they found themselves
battling in. With a considerable improvement in the waves and wind, they were expected to put on an even more solid performance to try and get through into the fourth round.
As the 11th heat kicked-off, Flores wasted very little time in making his charge. Catching a juicy wave in the early stages of the man-on-man bout, the Frenchman unleashed a flurry of quick turns to earn a 7.00 for the effort. He went through
a number of waves before eventually getting hold of his second business-wave to collect 6.33 points off it, thus moving to a heat-total of 13.33 points.
Buchan remained pretty busy throughout the course of the heat as well, but only managed to collect a 5.50 and 4.67 off his best-two waves to end up with a heat-total of 10.17 points. The 3.16-point deficit forced him to surrender a convincing victory to
Flores, consequently sending the latter into the fourth round.
