Jeremy Gan optimistic for a medal through Peng Soon Chan and Liu Ying Goh at Olympic Games 2012
Jeremy Gan, the national coach of Malaysia, is confident that country’s top Mixed Doubles shuttler Peng Soon Chan and Liu Ying Goh will return home with a medal from Olympic Games 2012, starting from the last week of July, at London, England.
The coach believes that Peng Soon and Liu Ying can spoil the party of any top couple in the world as they have achieved highest skills.
Besides that, the recent performance of the Malaysian couple indicate that they will live up to the expectations at the mega event as they have defeated all top shuttlers in the world on different occasions and can repeat those performances again in Olympics.
The World Number 8 Peng Soon and Liu Ying, who have become the first Malaysian shuttlers in Mixed Doubles category who qualified for Olympics on merit which clearly indicates their higher level of skills and determination.
Peng Soon and Liu Ying have been playing top quality badminton for the last six months and reached into the semi-finals of three Super Series and Premier Super Series events including Malaysia Open, All England Open and Singapore Open. In last month, the
duo also showed their class on home soil and won the home event of Malaysia Open GP Gold 2012.
Considering the recent performance of Malaysian couple, the coach is optimistic that they will perform well but at the same time he said that they should be confident in their approach.
He stated, “Peng Soon-Liu Ying have also beaten most of the top pairs and must play with confidence in order to reach the medal rounds. The first target is to clear the group stage. The mixed doubles is very open as all the top eight pairs have won at least
one title this year. This is including Peng Soon-Liu Ying and I believe they have a chance for a medal.”
The coach further added, “Peng Soon-Liu Ying play well as underdogs and I hope they can take advantage of the situation.”
Peng Soon and Liu Ying will be facing the top opponents from China, Indonesia, Denmark, Korea and Thailand and the coach wants them to remain confident on court which will give them extra edge against their higher ranked challengers.
