Jeremy Gan wants to intensify training for Chan Peng Soon and Goh Liu Ying after a short break
Jeremy Gan, the national coach of Malaysia for Doubles, said that he will make the training harder for the top national shuttlers Chan Peng Soon and Goh Liu Ying but after few days as both players need a well deserved rest after a hectic schedule.
The World Number 9 Peng Soon and Liu Ying, who have recently clinched Mixed Doubles title in the home event of Malaysia Open GP Gold 2012, are the only hope for Malaysia in Mixed Doubles category to win a medal at Olympic Games.
However, the coach also made it clear that they need to improve and surge into one step higher in standard if they want to win a medal at Olympics, which will start in the last week of July.
Peng Soon has been carrying an injury in his hand while his partner Liu Ying has been getting trouble from her soaring back.
Both shuttlers will take complete rest and will remain away from court for five days and will be back to face a tougher training with fresh mind and body.
In the last week’s Malaysia Open, Peng Soon and Liu Ying lived up to expectations as they won the crown which was their first achievement in an international event on home soil.
Besides this victory, the duo also won the 2012 Asian Badminton Championships and 2011 Bitburger Open.
While talking about their Olympic prospects, Jeremy said that they need to work extra hard and should get into the next level for bringing good results in Olympic Games.
However, he also appreciated their performance in the recent tournament.
Jeremy said, “Their progress has been commendable but they need to take their game a notch higher if they are to win a medal at the Olympics. After the break, I’m going to push them harder in training.”
Before Olympic Games, Peng Soon and Liu Ying will compete in the Indonesia Open Premier Super Series 2012 which will take place in Indonesia from June 12-17.
After the Indonesia Open, the Malaysian couple will participate in Singapore Open Super Series 2012 which will take place from June 19-24 in Singapore.
