Jeremy Guthrie shines as Baltimore Orioles defeat Boston Red Sox 6-2 - MLB Update
Baltimore Orioles’ starter, Jeremy Guthrie had a remarkable day with the ball as he gave up just two runs on eight hits and had four strike-outs in the Orioles’ 6-2 victory over the Boston Red Sox at Oriole Park, Baltimore on July 19.
The Red Sox’ centre-fielder, Jacoby Ellsbury was grounded out to second base and Dustin Pedroia got out to short-stop position at the top of the first inning. Similarly, the Orioles’ batters also struggled as J.J. Hardy grounded out to second base and Nick
Markakis flied out towards left-field at the bottom of the first inning.
The Orioles opened their scoring account during the second inning and posted two runs on the score-board to take a 2-0 lead. Mark Reynolds doubled off deep left-field and Adam Jones scored a single run. Nolan Reimold was grounded out to short-stop position
and Matt Wieters added one run to lift the potential of the Orioles.
Wieters singled towards right-field and Markakis scored one run at the bottom of the third inning to give the Orioles a 3-0 lead. During the fourth inning, the batters got out on their lethargic shots towards field positions.
Guthrie pitched seven innings with an ERA of 4.35 and allowed just one walk and one home-run on his 110 pitches. Guthrie expressed his excitement and said, “Good game there. The late runs were huge for us and we played great defence. This is a win that makes
me feel really good, and I think the team feels good about it.”
In the fifth inning, the Red Sox posted their initial two runs to reduce their lead 3-2. Jarrod Saltalamacchia struck a two-run homer (371 feet) towards right-field and Josh Reddick added one run. The batters were struck-out during the sixth and seventh
inning without contributing any run to their individual score-card.
During the eighth inning, the Orioles’ batters raised their lead 6-2 by posting three runs. Derrek Lee hit a two-run homer (399 feet) to right-field and Wieters contributed a single run. Reynolds struck a solo homer (409 feet) towards left-centre field to
give his team a competitive lead. At the top of the ninth inning, Reddick flied out to left-field and Carl Crawford grounded out to the pitcher.
The Orioles tied the three-game series 1-1 after having secured a decent win.
