Jeremy Hefner’s brilliance leads New York Mets to blank Pittsburgh Pirates 6-0 - MLB Update

Starter Jeremy Hefner strikes-out seven as he helps the New York Mets blank the Pittsburgh Pirates 6-0 at Citi Field, New York on September 26, 2012 in the third game of the four match series.
Hefner restricted Pirates to just three hits throughout the match. He was lucky enough to find support from the offence unlike some of the starters in the Mets who met disappointment in this regard a number of times.
The fact Mets struck 14 hits on Wednesday is a clear indication of sharp improvements from their offence. Four runs they posted in the third provided them the lead which remained intact throughout the match. As Pirates showed little resistance, they cruised
to victory.
Mets’ Third baseman David Wright reached a tremendous landmark by striking two hits in the game. He has now left behind Ed Kranepool and has assumed the top position in the franchise list of players with maximum number of hits.
He is not ready to celebrate the moment of glory as he feels they are struggling in the season as a team. However, he looks to enjoy in the off-season and take pleasure from all his achievements.
Hefner will be extremely pleased with his performance. The way he kept the opposition scoreless and struck-out a reasonable number of batters is not generally expected from a Mets’ starter.
Wright makes interesting comments about his hit in the game. He is excited to attain such a milestone especially at a time when the Mets really do not have much to celebrate in terms of success this season. The fact he has clinched glory in a home series
has added to his pride.
"I got a chance to show off my blazing speed," Wright said. "Ten years from now, when I'm telling my kids, it's going to be a line drive. It's going to be a little different. But I'll take it. A hit's a hit, and just really excited I could do it at home.
The fans were great to me."
Mets will be looking to beat the Pirates in the last game of the series. They will hope that their offensive support the batters are now providing to the pitchers becomes a routine matter.
