Jeremy Hellickson helps Tampa Bay Rays defeat Cleveland Indians 7-0 - MLB Update
The American League’s Tampa Bay Rays dominated to shut-out the league rivals Cleveland Indians 7-0 to take a 2-1 lead in the three-game series, at the Tropicana Field on Sunday, May 29.
The Rays’ starter, Jeremy Hellickson, entered the plate and took the game into his control, pitching fast swinging balls right from the first pitch. The right-hand hurler threw seven innings, struck out six batters without allowing any run over just three
hits and walked two to earn his sixth win of the season with great fashion.
The 24-year-old pitcher now has a 6-3 record with a 2.80 ERA after five starts, five in May and five in last month. He has made just two wins last month but now he has won four of his last five starts.
Reliever Adam Russell and closer Cesar Ramos each threw one scoreless inning to provide Jeremy an ideal back up. Russell was so impressive that he did not allow even a single hit on fourteen pitches of one innings spell. Ramos however allowed two hits but
struck-out one batter to hold his first game of the season.
Johnny Damon scored an RBI single to provide the Rays a 1-0 lead in the middle of the third inning. Ben Zobrist followed him and added a second RBI single in the same inning to take the lead to 2-0.
In the fourth inning, John Jaso launched a striking 369-feet two run homer off the Indians’ starter Justin Masterson after B.J. Upton occupied third base. In the sixth inning, Zobrist again came into action and grounded out to first base, scoring Evan Longoria
the fifth run of the game.
In the same inning, Sam Fuld added an RBI double on a throwing error by short-stop Alex Cabrera, to take a 7-0 indisputable lead.
The Indians’ manager Manny Acta was aware of the faults that his batters did during the game.
He said, "We just couldn't make the adjustments offensively against Hellickson. He had a very good change up as usual. Mixed his pitches very well."
Masterson, after allowing the seventh run handed the ball to reliever Frank Herrmann, who did not yield any run over his three innings spell. However, Masterson gave seven runs on eight hits, walked five and did not get any strike-out over a five innings
spell to bear his third loss of the season.
