Jeremy Hellickson leaks hits as Tampa Bay Rays face 1-3 defeat against Chicago White Sox – MLB
Starter Jeremy Hellickson allows three runs as the Tampa Bay Rays are beaten by the Chicago White Sox 1-3 at U.S. Cellular Field, Chicago, Illinois on September 28, 2012 in the second game of the four match series.
Rays were mediocre offensively as is indicated by just three hits they struck in the game. Other than the one run they managed in the first inning, they were scoreless throughout the rest of the match.
White Sox on the other hand were consistent comparatively with regards to posting runs on the scoreboard.
Tampa Bay cannot win games on regular basis unless their offence produces hits. Their pitchers need support from hitters in order to bring victories.
If the present performance of the offence continues, Tampa Bay will be looking for miracles to experience victories.
Hellickson completed a spell of little more than five innings on Friday for Tampa Bay. He yielded nine hits and gave up three runs as he experienced his 11th loss of the season.
Other than the starter, the rest of the pitchers that the Rays brought on the mound ended up their innings scoreless.
However, the solid innings from the relievers proved little help to the Rays as they were already trailing by two runs.
As far as the offence was concerned, shortstop Ben Zobrist produced a home-run for the Rays in the first inning. He struck one hit in three at-bats.
Right fielder for Rays, Matt Joyce points out the importance of winning games for the team from now onward. He is conscious of the fact that attaining something substantial is not easy given their present win-loss record in the season.
"That was definitely the mindset, to win and to take each game as it comes," Joyce said. "I think we're still in the same mindset, you're trying to win every game you play. The tough thing is that you can't control anything else other than what you have
on your table. For us, that's what we're going to concentrate on."
Rays will be looking forward to a more attacking approach from their batters next time. They will go all-out to keep the White Sox from beating them again in the upcoming matches.
