Jeremy Johnston, Nathan Yeomans and Kai Barger advance to Round 3 at Coastal Edge ECSC
America’s Jeremy Johnston, his fellow countryperson Nathan Yeomans and Hawaii’s Kai Barger successfully secured their place in the third round (Round of 48) at the Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) 6-Star Coastal Edge ECSC presented by Vans after
claiming top honours in their respective Round 2 (Round of 96) heats that went down at Virginia Beach in Virginia, America, on Thursday, August 23.
America’s Michael Dunphy, his fellow compatriot Matt Pagan and Hawaii’s Kalani David also made their way into the next round of the event after securing runner-up positions in their respective Round 2 heats.
The high-performance conditions on offer at the primary event site on the latest day of the competition promised a heavy dose of exciting performances as the surfing talent from around the globe continued to compete for survival.
The fourth heat pitted Johnston against Dunphy, his compatriot Hunter Lysaught and Australia’s Mitchel Coleborn.
The contest turned out to be a low-scoring affair, with a two-wave total of 11.40 points proving to be sufficient to earn Johnston victory.
Dunphy accompanied his fellow countryperson into the next round after securing runner-up place through registering a two-wave total of 10.57 points.
Coleborn finished in third place with a two-wave total of 10.37 points, while Lysaught rounded out the bottom-position with a heat-total of 9.70.
The fifth heat saw Yeomans walk away with the win after putting on an impressive performance to get the better of Pagan, his compatriot Dylan Kowalski and Hawaii’s Kevin Sullivan. The American surfer got hold of a couple of juicy waves to register a two-wave
total of 13.93 points.
Pagan finished in second place after concluding the heat with a heat-total of 12.66 points, thus earning his place in the next round.
Kowalski finished in third place with a heat-total of 8.27 points, while Sullivan had to settle for a two-wave total of 7.82 points.
Barger walked away with the win in the sixth heat of the event after putting on a phenomenal performance for a two-wave total of 16.96 points.
David finished in runner-up place with a heat-total of 12.63 points, whereas New Zealand’s Jay Quinn and America’s Nathan Behl rounded out the bottom-two positions with a heat-total of 8.17 and 7.26 points respectively, consequently getting eliminated from
the competition.
