Jeremy Lin hires Jim Tanner as his agent - NBA Update
Jeremy Lin, New York Knicks point guard, has appointed a new agent to handle his marketing and basketball affairs.
In a short span, Lin has reached the heights of glory and fame that most of the players long for their whole lives. In the past Lin was without an agent, but not anymore, as Jim Tanner a seasoned NBA agent will manage his affairs.
Tanner also manages the affairs of Tim Duncan, Shane Battier and Grant Hill, and is a partner of Washington based law firm Williams and Connolly.
The 23-year-old point guard showed his complete trust in Tanner and his firm.
"I believe Jim and the team at Williams & Connolly are the best fit for me in all aspects of my career," the 23-year-old hoopster said in a statement”. Jeremy said during a press release.”With the quality and character of their
firm and clients, their extensive basketball experience and tremendous success in athlete representation, I am confident that Williams & Connolly will provide me with the guidance I need to continue to develop personally and professionally."
Lin is currently in deal with Nike and Volvo, Tanner during a candid session with Sports Business Daily’s Liz Mullen said that a lot of Asian companies are interested in Lin, he didn’t mention any names. The afore mentioned law
firm will also look after Lin’s legal issues, such as contract agreements, community investments and media relations.
Jeremy is heading into the free agency in this July, while Knicks have won the case that was pending with the arbitrator regarding use of Lin’s Bird Rights. Keeping the recent developments in sight Lin’s decision to hire an agent
is impeccable.
New York Knicks will go to any extent to re-hire their superstar, it is believed that Jeremy will ask for a $5 million per annum contract, and Knicks’ will match that happily. Previously before the (Bird Rights) decision Knicks
had their $5million midlevel exception to re-sign Jeremy Lin. That left them with a very little salary cap to rope in Steve Novak or any other seasoned player. However now they can go on to re-sign Novak and Lin both without touching the midlevel exception.
Jeremy’s season was shortened due to the torn meniscus in his left knee that had to be surgically repaired. However he left a deep imprint in the minds of his fans by displaying great athleticism and explosiveness.
Based on his performance, he became the recipient of “The Epic Award" at the NBA TV social media awards. The award is given to the game that is voted as the best of regular season. Lin recorded 38 points against Los Angeles Lakers
on February 12, 2012.
