Jeremy Lin strikes gold; New York Knicks beat Toronto Raptors at the death 90 – 87 – NBA Recap
Jeremy Lin’s fairy tale run with the New York Knicks just keeps on gaining momentum, and tonight the flashy point guard added yet another chapter; hitting the game winner for New York’s 90 – 87 win over the Toronto Raptors.
The game at the Air Canada Centre looked like going the home side’s way until the last quarter, when Lin once again spun his magic to snatch the victory for his side. With the clock winding down, the Knicks trusted Lin with their last shot and he connected,
taking his points tally in the match to 27 while he also had 11 assists.
Lin’s double-double performance was the best one in the game, but he had some help too. Star forward Amar’e Stoudemire, who has just returned from injury, made a definitive impact with 21 points and 9 rebounds. Tyson Chandler was also noteworthy with 13
and 9.
For Toronto, Jose Calderon was the pick of the bunch with team high points, 25, and team high assists, 9. DeMar DeRozan scored 14 while Linas Kleiza had 15 points and 11 rebounds off the bench.
The game started pretty evenly and the scores were close in the early going. After the halfway mark in the first quarter though, the Raptors started to pull away. They had a 10 – 0 run that put them in control. New York responded with a 6 – 2 burst, but
that wasn’t enough to restore parity, Raptors finishing ahead at 28 – 21.
Toronto proceeded to take their lead into double figures with a 6 – 0 spurt to begin the 2nd quarter. The Knicks spent the period trying to chase down the home team, but even with a 6 – 0 run to end the first half, they were trailing at 47 -36.
Both teams came out aggressive after the interval. The third period thus was a high scoring affair, with a total of 58 points netted. The flow of the game though was fairly even and the Toronto were able to maintain a healthy lead by the end, up 75 – 66.
New York just blitzed the Raptors in the final quarter. They clawed down the deficit with good offensive execution while holding the Raptors to just 12 points for the whole segment. With the scores tied at 87, the ball founds it way to Lin. He connected
with the go ahead 3-pointer and Raptors missed their opportunity, handing the Knicks a 90 – 87 win.
