Jeremy Lin will meet Houston Rockets on Wednesday: Possible deal underway - NBA Report
Houston Rockets, on the road to redemption are trying to re-sign their ex-guard Jeremy Lin. According to two sources close to the situation, Lin is visiting Rockets front office on this Wednesday and Jeremy is expected to get a
contract offer.
Lin became a free agent on July 1st and it was assumed that New York Knicks will go for any extent to retain their superstar, the case become stronger after the franchise won the decision regarding his and Steve Novak’s
Bird Rights.
But according to the undisclosed sources Rockets are also interested in landing Lin back to their roster, they waived him off in last December and was eventually claimed by Knicks.
The rise of Jeremy Lin is nothing short of a Cinderella Story. No NBA franchise drafted him from the college and he was waived off by Golden State Warriors after a year and by Rockets after 2 weeks. At that time, before coming
to Knicks he was nothing more than a bench warmer and had a limited role in the game coming off the bench.
But coming into Mike D’ Antoni system he became a sensation and the journey from nobody to Linsanity was covered in a matter of weeks. Mikes’ system always contemplated a big ball handler and Lin became the centrepiece for his
offense.
In the month of February during the last season Lin was on song, he went onto score as high as 38 points and almost scored in double-figures in every game. But just when he was basking in the glory, his season ending injury happened.
Before that he started 25 of 35 games and averaged 14.6 points, 6.2 assists and 3.1 rebounds.
This was the time when Rockets GM Daryl Morey, twitted that he is regretting over his decision to let go off Lin. They would want Lin more than ever now, as their guard Goran Dragic walked away. It has been learnt that Houston
are willing to offer a multi-year deal to Lin amounting up to several million dollars.
Knicks on the other hand are also willing to match whatever Rockets are offering and they want to retain Lin. Knicks have been desperately pursuing Steve Nash to sign a contract with them, previously they didn’t have much in the
form of salary cap, but after the Bird Right decision they can go onto extend contracts without touching their $5million midlevel exception.
The deals will be signed on July 11 and in the meanwhile both teams are trying to get the best out of the situation.
