Jeremy Meyer clinches Men’s 200m breaststroke gold – EnergyAustralia SC Championships
Jeremy Meyer of Traralgon, VIC clinched gold medal of the Men’s 200m breaststroke on third day of the 2012 EnergyAustralia Short Course Championships at Challenge Stadium in Perth on Friday, September 14.
The 21-year-old Meyer lived up to the expectations of his supporters as he occupied gold medal of the event. He showed no mercy to his opponents throughout the race and earned his way to the top of victory stand for gold medal.
Meyer remained comfortably ahead of his opponents throughout the discipline and proved his mettle for the title of the event by hitting the wall with a timing of 2 minutes and 07.46 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Nicholas Schafer of River City Rapid, who stayed 0.61 seconds apart and touched the wall with a timing of 2 minutes and 08.07 seconds.
Schafer was followed by Nikola Pregelj of Southport Olympic Swimming Club, who stayed 1.16 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and touched the wall with an effort of 2 minutes and 09.23 seconds for bronze medal.
The third position holder was followed by Lennard Bremer of West Coast, WA, who remained 1.08 seconds away from his foregoing finisher and surfaced on the wall as fourth fastest swimmer with an effort of 2 minutes and 10.31 seconds.
Fifth position of the event was obtained by Buster Sykes of Nudgee Brothers, who stayed one and a half body length behind and clocked a time of 2 minutes and 11.85 seconds.
Sykes was chased by James Stacey of Lane Cove, NSW, who stayed 0.57 seconds apart and submitted a time of 2 minutes and 12.42 seconds for sixth position.
Similarly, Stacey was followed by Matthew White of Rocky City, who earned seventh position of the event by reporting an effort of 2 minutes and 12.94 seconds.
White enjoyed an advantage of 1.49 seconds over Trent Abbott of University NSW, who remained prominent for eighth position and ended eighth in the event with a timing of 2 minutes and 14.43 seconds.
Furthermore, Meyer received massive admiration from the crowd for his commendable form in the race after the event.
