Jeremy Pargo leads Cleveland Cavaliers to a 92-83 win over the Philadelphia 76ers: NBA Recap
Jeremy Pargo scored his career high 28 points and Anderson Varejao added a double-double, carrying Cleveland Cavaliers to a 92-83 win over the Philadelphia 76ers on Wednesday night. This win snapped the Cavaliers six game losing streak to the Sixers.
Dion Waiters posted 16 points and 6 assists; Varejao scored 10 points and a night-high 19 rebounds for the Cavaliers while Alonzo Gee chipped in with 14 points.
Jrue Holiday and Jason Richardson led the Sixers with 16 points; Evan Turner added a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds while Nick Young chipped in with 13 points.
"Pargo played the game of his life tonight. He killed us on screens with the ball, going one-on-one, hitting 3-balls. It was like he was playing a video game -- NBA2K -- against us out there."  Sixers forward Thaddeus Young said after the game.
Cleveland did not look like the team that has lost their previous 6 encounters against the Sixers as they were in control since the word go and were up 9-2 when Alonzo Gee dropped down a three pointer. Later on, Varejao tipped one in for the Cavs to push their advantage to 14-9.
Minutes later, a seven nil quick burst capped off by a Gee shot from downtown ballooned their lead to 21-11. A Tyler Zeller jumper had them comfortably placed at 28-15 by the end of the period.
The Cavs started the second period strongly and pushed their lead to 35-17 after the early going of the second period. A C.J. Miles jumper put them up 38-19 before the Phillies sprung into action and went for a 7-0 run to slash the deficit down to 26-38. But Cleveland were in no mood to be chased down and closed the second period with a 6 point run to cement their authority, going into second half leading 47-35.
Richardson scored 7 straight points for the Phillies at the start of the third period to bring them within 42-47. It was Richardson again, this time with his free throws that made it a two point game at 50-52.  But Cleveland wanted to put some distance between themselves and the Phillies and went for a quick 13-0 scoring spree that put them up 65-50.
The Sixers however were not to be silenced that easy, they managed to cut down the deficit to 58-68 by the end of the period.
A Young free throw made it a three point game at 67-70 early in the fourth period for the 76ers. But Pargo and company kept scoring those buckets and were up 79-69 after a layup by Dion Waiters.  Holiday's jumper once again made it a two point game before the Cavaliers went for a game deciding 13-0 run to jump up 92-77 with about 1:33 on the regulation. The Sixers scored the last 6 points of the game to go down 83-92 to the Cavaliers.
