Jeremy Roenick and Hatcher brothers to be inducted into the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame
The United States have supplied the National Hockey League with many spectacular players over the years. From Chris Chelios to Mike Modano, the NHL has been graced by the presence of these
fine Americans.
Three of these great players will be inducted into the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame during a special ceremony that will be held at the HSBC Arena in Buffalo, New York on Thursday, 21 October.
Forward Jeremy Roenick, along with brothers Kevin and Derian Hatcher are the players being inducted.
Joining them will be U.S. Olympic team physician Dr. V. George Nagobads, and Art Berglund, who has served an administrator within USA Hockey for many years.
Roenick, who was known for his outspokenness as much as he was for his offensive talent, is among the top-scoring American players in NHL history. He scored 513 goals and 703 assists for
1,216 points in 1,363 games during his 21-year NHL career.
Originally drafted by the Chicago Blackhawks eighth overall in 1988, Roenick also played for the Phoenix Coyotes, Philadelphia Flyers, Los Angeles Kings, and San Jose Sharks. He officially
announced his retirement on 6 August, 2009.
Kevin and Derian, the Hatcher brothers, were among some of the most powerful defencemen of their day. They were known for their strong defensive skills and their ability to deliver punishing
hits to the opposition. Kevin was drafted 17th overall by the Washington Capitals in 1984, and played 1,157 games over 17 NHL seasons. He retired after the 2000-01 season with 227 goals and 450 assists for 677 points to his name.
Derian, the younger of the two brothers, was drafted eighth overall by the Minnesota North Stars in 1990. He was a great physical defenceman who often levelled his opponents with his big
hits.
Roenick was once a victim of one of those hits, causing his jaw to dislocate in four places. He would later have the jaw wired shut, but returned to action soon afterwards. In 1,045 career
NHL games, Hatcher scored 80 goals and 251 assists for 331 points.
