Jeremy Stenberg wins gold medal in Moto X Best Whip – X Games 17 Update

The exciting first day action of X Games 17 continued with the Moto X Best Whip contest at the STAPLES Centre in Los Angeles, America, on Thursday, July 28.
The 29-year-old Jeremy Stenberg from Winchester, California, was all smiles after the results of the contest were announced, for he had been declared the winner. The silver medal was clinched by Temecula-based rider, Todd Potter. Australia’s 19-year-old
Jarryd McNeil rounded out the podium to take home the bronze medal.
Unlike the more conventional contests, where a panel of judges analyse the performances and award points based on style, speed etc, the Moto X Best Whip entrusts fans with the responsibility of selecting the rider with the most impressive whip. The fans
cast their vote through text messages and it is on the basis of these votes that the Best Whip winner is determined.
Other than Stenberg, Potter and McNeil, the line-up for the competition also included Josh Hansen, Thomas Pages and Nate Adams. With a field full of such exciting riders, an evening of radical performances was expected.
The format of the contest put riders in a 10-minute jam session, asking them to showcase the most stylish whip in their arsenal to steal the limelight and win the maximum number of voters.
Once the jam session concluded, it came down to the fan’s votes to decide the fate of the contest. After settling for the bronze medal last year, Stenberg found the highest number of votes, 27 percent, coming in his favour to take him to his first-ever X
Games gold medal in the discipline. He earned the honour while making his 11th appearance on the biggest platform of action sports.
Talking to a reporter after the contest, Stenberg said, “I am stoked to get this gold out of the way. I’m looking forward to two more X Games medals this week.”
The 26-year-old defending champion, Potter, settled for runner up place this year to take home the silver medal after receiving 24% of the votes in his favour.  The Temecula-based rider is renowned for his whips, though this year he found himself outclassed
by Stenberg.
A total of 22 percent votes came in favour of the 19-year-old McNeil, allowing him to secure a place on the podium and adding an X Games bronze medal to his resume.
As expected, this year’s Moto X Best Whip contest turned out to be spectacular once again, treating the fans to a heavy dose of adrenaline-pumping freestyle Moto X action. The fans of Moto X will now look forward to catching more exciting action in the remaining
disciplines of the sport in the days to come.
