Question:

Jerk marinade too spicy... how can I dilute it?

I bought a jerk sauce/marinade because I had jerk shrimp at a bbq and loved it! But when I tried to make it with the store-bought, it was waaay too spicy for me. I hate letting things go to waste, so is there anything I can mix with the marinade next time to dilute the spicyness?

Thanks!

  1. A little sugar or honey would soften the bite a bit.

  2. Dilute it with water, lime or lemon juice and then add in sugar or honey to tone down the spiciness.

  3. - Dilute it with something like tomatos if it goes with whatever you're making

    OR

    - DIlute it with water.  You may have to add cornstarch to thicken it up a bit.

  4. have you tried adding regular bbq sauce to it???

  5. why don't you make your own jerk sauce (it's really easy) but leave out the scotch bonnet peppers and then mix the two to cut the spice. then, since you'll have extra sauce, you can get some boneless skinless chicken thighs and marinate them and grill them...YUM.
