Jermain Defoe urges Gareth Bale to stay at Tottenham Hotspur
Tottenham Hotspur striker Jermain Defoe has urged in-demand attacker Gareth Bale to reject any potential suitors stay with the English Premier League club.
The 21-year-old Welshman is on the radar of the biggest clubs in Europe following a string of impressive performances for Spurs, including two stellar showings against European champions Inter Milan in the UEFA Champions League.
As a result of his strong displays, Bale has been linked with clubs including Milan, EPL giants Manchester United and La Liga champions Barcelona.
But Defoe, who is currently out of action with an ankle injury (sustained while on international duty with England), has claimed that the Spurs are a club who are on the rise, and that Bale would do well to stay at White Hart Lane.
'Bale deserves praise'
According to The Mirror, he said, "It's always good to hear big clubs abroad saying nice things about you, and Gareth deserves all the praise he is getting.
"But just look at how long it took for him to adapt to moving between clubs here in England — he moved to Spurs from Southampton three years ago. It's not as easy as people may think.
"To do it abroad must be even harder. In any case, I remember the manager saying earlier this season that we are probably two players away from winning the Premier League.
"I'd agree, which is why I don't see my own future anywhere else but at Spurs. Tottenham are not a selling club. We are a coming force and big clubs keep their best players."
In the first match against Inter, on 20 October, Bale refused to give up after the Italians had gone 4-0 up. The winger almost rescued a point for his side after scoring a sensational second-half hat-trick at the San Siro.
In the return game on Tuesday, 2 November, the player shone again as he caused havoc on the left-wing and set up goals for Peter Crouch and Roman Pavlyuchenko in a 3-1 win.
