Tottenham Hotspur striker http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jermain-Defoe-c18359 has revealed he believes his side were extremely unlucky against Manchester City but will bounce back from the 3-2 defeat.
With the opportunity to close the gap with the league leaders, Tottenham Hotspur were optimistic before their clash against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roberto-c31294 Mancini’s side. Unfortunately for the London side they failed to even secure a point as Manchester City managed a 3-2 win.
Manchester City striker http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Mario-Balotelli-c23937 converted a last minute penalty to award his side the win, having escaped being sent off by referee Howard Webb for an apparent stomp on Scott Parker’s head. It was shortly after Defoe’s effort that Balotelli’s shot
found the back of the net, giving his side all three points.
The defeat sees Tottenham Hotspur eight points behind Manchester City at third place on the Premier League table and Defoe believes it was just bad luck that had seen them lose to the Citizens. The striker believed they could have managed a win or even a
draw had lady luck been on their side.
Defoe said in an interview:
“We were so unlucky. The lads are devastated. We really thought we were going to win the game when it was 2-2.
It was just unfortunate. We just needed that bit of luck and it wasn't there.”
He revealed:
“Even then I thought we'd still get the point, the lads had done brilliantly. But they got a last-minute penalty and it was all over.”
However, Defoe urged his side to remain positive and try and return to winning ways starting from their next fixture. The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 international revealed he felt his side had performed well and deserved at least a draw if not all three points since they were
the better side in the highly controversial fixture on Sunday.
Defoe continued:
“You have still got to be positive and think if you get a goal back then you have got a chance. It is football, anything can happen.
I thought we played well and in the second half I thought we were the better side. We created a lot of chances.”
