Jermain Taylor back on track after unanimous win over undefeated Caleb Truax – Boxing news
Jermain Taylor, the former WBC, WBO, IBF, and WBA super world middleweight champion, collected a successful unanimous decision in his favour and gifted Caleb Truax, the current USA Minnesota State middleweight champion, his first ever defeat, in a 10-round
bout held on April 20, 2012.
The ring for the most anticipated bout was stretched at Beau Rivage Resort & Casino situated in Biloxi, Mississippi, United States and the above duo headlined the pay-per-view.
The special edition was televised live on Friday night’s Showtime channel and was co-promoted by Lou DiBella of DiBella Entertainment and Richard Schaefer of Golden Boy Promotions. The bout was Taylor’s second battle after the lapse of two years and he proved
that he still has got enough gas in his fists to nail the top class pugilists.
From the very first second, Jermain, infamous as the ‘Bad Intentions’, possessed a clear upper hand over Caleb. Taylor was experienced with ability to not only knock the opponent out cold but also to take them to the very last second of the bout to collect
a unanimous win.
Caleb, on the other hand, was a clear underdog but his impressive pugilism against Taylor during the 10-round showdown grabbed due praise from not only the crowd but the critics as well.
Taylor was in his 35th career bout and boasted 29 wins with 18 of them via knockout. During his prime era, Taylor fought Carl Froch, Arthur Abraham and Kelly Pavlik. Though he lost all those four bouts yet the experience gained was priceless.
Taylor, later on, went out of the ring for two years and made an impressive comeback against Jessie Nicklow by collecting an eighth-round technical knockout win. Caleb, 28, also known as the ‘Golden’, was entering in his 20th bout and boasted an undefeated
win streak.
The bout kicked off and Taylor outclassed Caleb in almost all the significant facets of the sport. Caleb strived hard to follow the pace set by Jermain but all his efforts went in vain as the former champion capitalised his reach and experience optimally
to collect a unanimous decision.
Taylor fanatics got stunned at one moment when in the ninth round, in sheer frustration, Caleb threw a huge right hand that connected Jermain’s chin and flattened him on the floor. If Taylor had not broken the 10-count he would have definitely lost the bout.
The 10-round wild ride eventually ended and all the three judges unanimously allocated 98-91, 97-92, and 97-94 in favour of Jermain Taylor who is now back on the win track. With this win Taylor has improved to 30 wins in 35 bouts and Caleb, unfortunately,
has collected his career’s first ever loss.
